Lilianfels Blue Mountains
Back in 1889 Sir Fredrick Darley, Chief Justice and Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales, built his vision: a fine country house with the most spectacular views of the Blue Mountains. His original residence, now beautifully restored as Darley's Restaurant, is a historic part of the new 86 room country house: Lilianfels Blue Mountains.
The Cottage Suite too is a period piece - a 100-year-old cottage, renovated with great charm and a spirit of romance.
At Lilianfels, the atmosphere of the times has been retained, though not at the expense of efficiency. Fax machines and direct-dialling now co-exist with down-filled duvets and mitred cupboards, but the qualities that drew society here long ago are much as they were. In attention to detail and level of service, Lilianfels is now perhaps less formal, but not less proud. And these panoramic views still work their miracle on 20th Century stress. Lilianfels is one of those very rare places in the world that feels as if it were made for
you.
The timeless, peaceful wonder of the Blue Mountains is one of Australia's most cherished possessions, and here you can awaken to a majesty of outlook that hasn't changed in a million years, from Lilianfels position overlooking the sublime and serene Jamison Valley with its faint blue tinge of eucalypt.
Consider your options for the day - and assume that each pleasure is doubled by the beauty of your surroundings.
If golf is your game, you are in paradise here, with several championship courses close at hand. Shoot par golf with an eagle's view.
Sign posted bush walks range from the energetic to the undermanding, and stately old pine trees cast shade over Lilianfels' tennis and volleyball court.
This is birdwatching, horseriding and fishing country; or on a crisp, clear morning you might take one of the mountain bikes for a spin.
There are, of course, less strenuous pleasures to be had. Play a frame of billiards in a traditional club setting, or a devilish game of croquet on the lawn.
Within its graceful interior, Lilianfels provides many ways to relax, to indulge, or to be entertained.
A heated indoor pool offers possibly the most magnificent view a swimmer ever had, overlooking the Jamison Valley...or you can enjoy the same panorama from the elegant lounge. Relax in wing chairs or sofas, a fine cognac beside you on a mahogany table; choose a book from the library; or sit and dream in the dancing light from two large, open fireplaces.
Lilianfels Health Club is for people who'd rather be pampered than pump iron. Yes, there is a gymnasium, but there's also a splendid beauty salon, a float, herbal bath, separate male and female saunas, spas, steam rooms and a relaxation room.
At Lilianfels Blue Mountains, your welcome is warm and genuine - a first taste of service which will remain attentive without intruding, and informal without being familiar. Away from the pace of the city, you'll also find there's more time for explanation and conversation.
This quality of hospitality is also reflected in Lilianfels' two superb restaurants... Darley's and Lilian's. Darley's is open for dinner (Wed-Sat) and Lilian's is open for breakfast and dinner (7 days). Both restaurants' are proud of their excellent wine list - all still wines are exclusively Australian, and of a quality that's appropriate to the original 100-year-old cellar.
Restaurant bookings are essential.
Don't be surprised if you feel instantly at home. In guest rooms and suites you'll find personality and individuality at work...bedrooms and suites have cornices and mouldings. A beautiful armoire conceals T.V, video, teacups etc....bathrooms are not simply beautiful, but thoughtful - with massage scrubs and herbal oils, separate shower, and huge fluffy towels.
There are seven meeting and conference rooms, with a capacity of 8 to 140 people, all combine natural light and utter privacy with an air of success. Lilianfels personal service and attention to detail make a business stay much more pleasure.
Lilianfels Blue Mountains is the place to relax in peace, to reaffirm your romance or to plan your business. And it is certainly the place to celebrate a elegant occasion.
Since its opening in October 1991 Lilianfels has received the following accolades:
1999.
- NSW Restaurant & Catering Association Award for 'Best Wine List'.
- NSW Awards for Excellence in Tourism for 'Best Luxury Accommodation'.
